The Young Arts Representative (YAR) for the Society is who works with local schools in the area including Kingdown School, Warminster, Warminster School and Matravers School, Westbury.
One school a year is sponsored at sixth form level to have a hands-on workshop given by an outside artist, either within the school or at the artist's studio. This year we are enabling 8 students from Kingdown School to take part in a glass blowing workshop in Frome.
This is costly - £400 and upwards - and so funds are raised by monthly raffles, match funded by a grant from The Arts Society. Building up a relationship with schools takes time and getting to know the Heads of the Art departments and meeting the students is important.
The YAR attends the workshop in person to take photos and write reports for the society, HQ and the local press. The YAR also organizes and photographs students art work done in the final year to be submitted for consideration for The Royal Society of British Artists.
Final selection of work is hung at an Annual exhibition in the Mall Galleries. This is prestigious for the pupil and the school if selected.
All societies are encouraged to have YAR to support young people throughout the country and enable them to take part in Art in different ways.
